Four ways to improve focus and memory

Normal aging leads to changes in many skills associated with memory and thinking. Here are four strategies that can help enhance your focus and your ability to process incoming information:

  1. When someone is talking to you, look at the person and listen closely. If you miss something, ask the person to repeat themselves or to speak slower.
  2. Paraphrase the information to make sure you understand. This will also help reinforce the information making it easier to recall later.
  3. If you get distracted during conversations try getting together with people in a quiet environment. The less distractions the easier it will be to focus.
  4. Do one thing at time. This way your attention is focused entirely on something making it easier to do, as well as easier to avoid distractions.
